Stressless® Paul — high back with a seamlessly integrated headrest
The Stressless® Paul is one of the newest and tallest recliners from the Norwegian brand Stressless. It combines extra back length for taller people with a sleek, understated design: a wing-shaped back that cradles you and a headrest that extends up to 7 cm without any visible openings.

What makes the Stressless® Paul special?
A high back that looks sleek yet still hugs you
Chairs for taller people are often clunky or bulky. The Stressless® Paul proves that there’s another way: it immediately stands out thanks to its sleek, flowing silhouette and distinguishes itself from other recliners through three key details.

Slim design with extra back length
One of the tallest backrests in the collection. The back curves slightly forward at the sides in a wing-like shape: this visually breaks up the width, but as soon as you sit down, the chair wraps around you like a cocoon.

An invisible headrest
With almost every other Stressless model, the headrest is a separate component. With the Paul, the back and sides flow seamlessly into a single, sleek upholstery panel—even when the headrest is fully extended (up to 7 cm). Ideal when the chair is placed freestanding in the room.

Elegant piping detail
The seams are finished with contrasting or tone-on-tone piping. This requires meticulous handwork at the Norwegian factory, accentuates the sculptural lines, and gives the Paul a couture look that you won’t find in the more classic models.
Features & Comfort Technology
What kind of support and seating comfort does the Paul offer?
The Paul offers a more compact, firmer seating experience than most Stressless models. Because it is designed as a sleek, modern armchair with an extra-long back, the cold foam is molded more firmly and the upholstery is stretched tighter. As a result, you sit more “on” the chair, with more active ergonomic support.
The patented Stressless® systems are discreetly built in: as soon as you lean back, the chair moves smoothly with you and immediately adjusts the support for your neck and lower back.

| Characteristic | How you'll notice it |
|---|---|
| Integrated headrest | Extends up to 7 cm, with no gaps in the backrest — head and neck support for any body height. |
| Plus™ System | The headrest and lumbar support adjust automatically when you lean back, ensuring that your neck and lower back remain supported in every position. |
| BalanceAdapt™ | The seating area subtly adapts to your body's slightest movement; you feel a gentle rocking motion that keeps you balanced. Standard on Signature and Cross models. |
| Glide-system™ | You adjust your seating position using your own body weight—no levers or buttons required. |
| Wing-shaped back | Extra padding on the sides of the backrest and upholstered armrests create a sense of being enveloped. |
| Smile-shaped seat | The seat cushion is slightly curved, so you can sink comfortably into the chair. |
Medium or Large
Choose the size that fits your body type
The Stressless® Paul is available in sizes M and L, so that the seat height, seat depth, and width match your height and leg length. A seat that’s too low or too deep can put just a little more pressure on your lower back. When you come in for a test sit, we’ll work with you to determine which size is the best fit for you.

Medium
Width 82 cm · seat height 45 cm · seat depth 50 cm
Height 109–116 cm with headrest

Large
Width 91 cm · seat height 47 cm · seat depth 53 cm

Interior & Materials
What's under the Paul's upholstery?
Inside the Stressless® Paul, you won’t find cheap fillers or simple slats, but rather a layered construction built from the inside out to ensure a long service life:
- A steel frame that absorbs all forces, ensuring that even after years of heavy use, the chair remains just as stable as it was on the first day.
- Flexible steel springs instead of elastic bands: they support your body weight evenly and don't sag.
- Cold-molded foam that is molded around the frame and fits perfectly everywhere—it retains its resilience and shape for years.
- A soft top layer of polyester fibers that gives you that instantly inviting feeling the moment you sit down.
Leather—from rugged Batick to exclusive Noblesse—is easy to care for and long-lasting; fabric often feels warmer and offers a wider range of colors and textures. The wooden parts are made of beech wood with FSC® or PEFC certification. A Stressless® care kit is available for both leather and fabric.

Frequently Asked Questions
All About the Stressless® Paul
Who is the Stressless® Paul best suited for?
The Stressless® Paul is particularly well-suited for taller people and for those looking for a high backrest with firm head and neck support. It has one of the tallest backrests in the collection, with a headrest that extends up to 7 cm. The seating comfort is more compact and firmer than in most Stressless models: you sit more “on” the chair, with active support.
What makes the Stressless® Paul different from other Stressless recliners?
Three things: the headrest is seamlessly integrated into the backrest, so the back remains a single continuous piece of upholstery, even when you extend the headrest; the back curves forward in a slight wing shape, giving it a sleek look while still cradling you; and the seams are finished with delicate piping. As a result, the Paul also looks great standing on its own in a room.
What is the difference between the Signature and Cross models?
The only difference is in the base. Signature features a metal base on a round wooden foot; Cross features a modern aluminum cross base with a sleek, contemporary look. Both include BalanceAdapt™, the Plus™ system, and the Glide-system™, and cost the same. The base is available in matte black or polished metal, and the wood in eight colors.
What size Paul do I need—M or L?
The Stressless® Paul is available in sizes M and L. Size M is 82 cm wide with a seat height of 45 cm; size L is 91 cm wide with a seat height of 47 cm and a deeper seat. A seat that is too low or too deep can put just a little more pressure on your lower back. When you try out the chair in the showroom, we’ll work with you to determine which size best suits your height and leg length.
Should I choose leather or fabric?
Both are possible. Leather looks luxurious, is easy to maintain, and lasts a long time; fabric often feels warmer and offers a wider range of colors and textures. In our showroom, you can feel the difference between the two and work with an advisor to decide which best suits your interior and maintenance preferences.
Where is the Stressless® Paul made?
The Stressless® Paul is designed and manufactured in Norway by Ekornes, the company behind Stressless. The brand has been making recliners in Norway since 1971; that craftsmanship is evident in the materials, the finish, and the long lifespan.
What kind of warranty do I get with a Stressless® Paul?
You receive a 10-year manufacturer’s warranty on the internal mechanism: the metal frame, the springs, and the Plus™ and BalanceAdapt™ systems. In addition, the 2-year statutory warranty applies, which also covers the upholstery and stitching in the event of hidden manufacturing defects.
How much does a Stressless® Paul cost, and what is the delivery time?
Online, you pay the Stressless Store promotional price: starting at €2,493 (armchair without ottoman in fabric group 1) and starting at €2,933 with an ottoman, up to €4,544 in Noblesse leather with an ottoman—all 10% below the suggested retail price. Signature and Cross models cost the same. Every Paul is custom-made in Norway; the delivery time is approximately 8 weeks, and delivery is free in Belgium and the Netherlands.
Can I try out the Stressless® Paul?
Yes. Because the Paul offers a more specific, firmer seating experience and has an extra-high backrest, we strongly recommend that you try it out first. You can do so for free at our Stressless Stores in Leuven and Antwerp (Wilrijk), where the entire collection is displayed side by side.
Where can I go if I have a problem with my Paul after purchasing it?
With us. The Stressless Stores in Leuven and Antwerp will continue to be your point of contact after your purchase: contact us by phone or email, and we'll arrange for service through our own team and Ekornes.
