Do you like to lean back? The chair moves with you, so you no longer feel a gap in your back. You don't sink down, and your feet stay on the ground. It follows even the slightest movements.
The unique Norwegian foams mold themselves around your body and its contours. Thanks to this pressure distribution—and the carefully designed dimensions that support your back, neck, head, and legs—you’ll remain comfortable for hours on end.
Norwegian sustainability is at the heart of these chairs. The foams are weather-resistant; the fabrics and leathers are treated to ensure they remain supple and comfortable while also lasting a very long time.
The Secret Behind the Chair
Just like with cars, smartphones, and artificial intelligence, there are advancements in comfort technology. Stressless’s technology is patented and features names you’ll find on every price list. Here’s what you’ll actually notice when you sit in the chair.

All systems operate mechanically, without levers or buttons—except for Power™, which adjusts electrically.
Ergonomics & Posture
Thanks to BalanceAdapt™ technology, the chair gently moves with you. It mimics the micro-movements you make during the most back-friendly activity there is: walking. At the same time, the Plus-system™ maintains the proportions of your ergonomic position, ensuring that your body remains in a relaxed, correct posture.
That makes this an easy chair to use for relieving mild back pain. But rest assured: we don’t make promises we can’t keep. The chair won’t cure your herniated disc. What it does do is help your muscles relax, promote proper posture, and encourage small movements so that you keep moving even while sitting.

Custom-designed
Making the right choice starts with a chair tailored to your body. Are you 1 m 60 or 1 m 90? Then you’ll undoubtedly need a different size. Almost every Stressless model comes in small, medium, and large.
Next comes the upholstery. Our showroom features a complete display wall: every type of leather and fabric, in every color, so you can compare them side by side and feel them—while sitting in the chair they’ll be used on.
The size you need depends on your body type: long or short legs, a long or short torso. That determines the seat height, seat depth, and backrest height. We’ll take your measurements together in the showroom.
Would you prefer an ultra-strong leather like Velaro, a supple Paloma, or perhaps a plush, soft fabric? The extra-soft Noblesse leather is also an option. Everything in between is available: from sturdy, durable fabrics to very fine leathers.
Finally, choose the finishing touch: the base and its color. Chrome or matte black, with or without wood. The wood is available in eight colors, stained with a water-based varnish—from light oak to wenge.

Electric
Our Stressless Adam is a beautiful blend of ergonomics and design. Thanks to its heart-balance position, your entire back can relax—and on top of that, it has a particularly elegant look.
The Adam has three built-in motors, each of which you can control individually using a slim remote control that attaches magnetically to the armrest. A single press of the Home button returns you to the upright position. It’s available with optional built-in heating and massage features; a battery-powered version is also available without those options.

Both the mechanism and the upholstery can be repaired. Our in-house repair service—Jorgen, with 30 years of experience—also repairs chairs purchased elsewhere.
Because Stressless is a strong brand, its resale value remains high compared to other brands. On the secondhand market, a Stressless chair sells for an average of €500 to €1,000, depending on the number of seats, condition, and features.
Ekornes tests its frames and Plus™ system using hydraulic robots: 150,000 to 300,000 test cycles under a load of up to 130 kg. The first thing to wear out is the leather or fabric, not the mechanism.

Made in Norway since 1971
Stressless is a brand of Ekornes, founded in Norway. The recliner was launched in 1971 and is still manufactured today in Sykkylven, on the west coast of Norway. Design, development, and production all take place in one location—which is exceptional in this industry.
That craftsmanship lies in the interior. A cold-formed steel tube frame with wave-shaped springs. Comfort-Zones cold foam that is poured directly into a mold over the frame, with air channels for ventilation and a top layer of polyester wadding. And the wooden bases? They consist of 32 layers of European beech wood pressed under high pressure.
The wood is certified by FSC or PEFC. Nothing about this chair is left to chance—and that’s exactly what you still feel after twenty years.
Since then, the basic principle has remained the same: a chair that moves with your body, rather than the other way around.

Service & Maintenance
We deliver your sofa at no extra cost in Belgium and the Netherlands, using our own team. If there’s a problem, we make it easy: in the event of a manufacturing defect, we’ll fix it for you at no charge. Repairs are done in our own workshop—even for sofas you’ve purchased elsewhere.
Jorgen has been restoring Stressless chairs in our own workshop for 30 years.
You can do the maintenance yourself, and it’s easier than you think. Use a Stressless maintenance kit at least twice a year; for the more delicate Noblesse leather, we recommend doing this every quarter. You can have your old sofa picked up upon delivery for 75 €.

Your feet touch the floor, the back of your knees are supported, you feel support for your back and neck, and you don’t feel the urge to slump. If you don’t notice any of these four things, you’re wearing the wrong size or the wrong style.
To find out, you’ll need to come in for a test fit. As a general rule: if you have an average build, a medium size usually fits best. If you have long legs or a long torso, we’ll need to take your measurements together. The honest answer is that every customer should come in for a test fit.
At our store, Stressless recliners start at €1,643 and go up to about €4,300 for the top-of-the-line models. The price depends on the model, the base, the size, the upholstery group, and whether you add a footstool. Delivery is free in Belgium and the Netherlands.
If you’re looking for maximum comfort, we always recommend a recliner—even if you have back problems. If you want to sit comfortably with several people, or if your purchase is more of a design choice than an ergonomic one, we recommend a reclining sofa from Stressless. In both cases, we’ll check the size and compatibility during a test sit.
Both are very durable and can withstand rough handling. With leather, there’s one condition: it must be properly maintained using a care kit. Leather looks luxurious and is easy to clean; fabric feels warmer and offers a wider range of colors and textures.
If you want a durable fabric, go for one with a high Martindale rating. If you want durable leather that can withstand small pets and grandchildren, choose Velaro or Paloma. And again: provided you maintain the leather properly with a care kit.
Yes. After your visit, you'll always receive the specifications for your sofa: length, width, and height, based on the configuration you've chosen. That way, you'll know exactly in advance whether it will fit.
Ideally, bring that person with you. If that’s not possible, ask them to describe their physical symptoms in detail and bring their height, weight, and, if possible, a photo. With that information, we can do a quick body scan and often recommend a few models—but coming in for a test fit is still the best option.
At least twice a year using a Stressless maintenance kit. For Noblesse leather, we recommend once a quarter. Seating areas require the most attention; if there’s a lot of sun, a fireplace, or dry air, you may need to clean them more often.
Three things: direct sunlight (UV) all day long, open fires—which dry out the leather—and not maintaining your sofa. Avoid those three, and your sofa will last twenty years or more without any problems.
