What makes the Stressless® Erik special?
A retro silhouette with a layered cushion design
While many recliners have a sleek, continuous backrest, you can immediately recognize the Erik by its layered design: a soft cushion that drapes over the seat shell like a comforter. Curious to see how it compares to the other models? Compare all Stressless recliners.

Double-stitched duvet cover
A plush, softly padded top cushion immediately provides a deep, soft feel. The geometric double stitching keeps the filling in place.

Headrest up to 10 cm higher
You can slide the headrest out up to 10 cm by hand. This ensures the neck support is just right, whether you're shorter or taller.

Slim, curved armrests
Fully lined, finished with the same double stitching, and curved gracefully downward at the front: compact in appearance, generous in comfort.
Design in Detail
Why is this called a duvet pillow?
“Duvet” is the French word for comforter. On the Erik, there’s an extra top layer on top of the ergonomic seat shell, filled with soft fibers and soft comfort foam. It literally feels as if a thick, comfortable comforter is draped over the chair.
The striking double stitching and the subtle tucks in the upholstery mimic the panels of a comforter. This gives the Erik its full, inviting look, and it keeps the soft filling in place, so the leather or fabric is less likely to wrinkle or sag.

How do the armrests differ from those on other Stressless models?
| Characteristic | Stressless® Erik | Many classic Stressless models |
|---|---|---|
| Form | A sleek, rounded profile that curves smoothly downward at the front | Wider, flatter, or pillow-shaped |
| Top | Fully upholstered in leather or fabric | Often with a visible wooden or metal part |
| Finishing | The same double stitching as on the top cushion | Usually without decorative stitching |
| With Signature or Cross | The curved line of the armrest flows smoothly into the base | The armrest and footrest are separate from each other |
The result: The Erik looks more compact in your living room than its seating comfort would suggest.
Features & Comfort Technology
Why is the Erik more ergonomic than many other recliners?
Many recliners use fixed cushions and a position that you lock into place with a lever. The Erik does the opposite: it moves with your body. This is made possible by the patented Stressless systems, complemented by a unique feature specific to this model: the headrest, which you can raise up to 10 cm.
Thanks to the three sizes—each with a different seat height and seat depth—the Erik also fits well at the bottom: your thighs rest on the seat without the front edge pressing into the backs of your knees.

| Characteristic | How you'll notice it |
|---|---|
| Adjustable headrest | Can be extended by hand up to 10 cm. This allows the neck support to adjust to the length of your back, whether you're 1.60 m or 1.95 m tall. |
| Plus™ System | The lumbar and neck supports move in sync when you lean back. Your lower back remains supported, and your gaze stays focused forward, on your book or the TV. |
| Glide-system™ | Shift your weight, and the chair glides smoothly into the desired position, without any levers or buttons. You set the resistance once. |
| BalanceAdapt™ | A subtle, rocking motion that adjusts the seating area to the slightest movement of your body. Available on the Signature and Cross models. |
| Three sizes | S, M, and L differ in width, seat height, and seat depth, so the seat fits your height and leg length. |
| Power™ (optional) | Footrest and backrest adjust electrically using buttons. Sizes M and L, available with a cord or rechargeable battery. |

Dynamic Sitting
Why is dynamic sitting so important?
Ergonomists put it this way: the best sitting posture is always the next one. Dynamic sitting means continuing to make small, natural movements while sitting, rather than sitting in one fixed position for hours on end.
If you sit still in the same position for a long time, you keep the same muscles working constantly and put pressure on the same areas over and over again. By changing your posture slightly from time to time, you distribute that strain and prevent stiffness.
The Erik doesn't get stuck. If you shift your arm or tilt your pelvis slightly, the chair moves smoothly with you, without you having to release a lever. This makes dynamic sitting happen naturally.
A Stressless is not a medical device. If you have back problems, please consult your doctor or physical therapist.
Small, Medium, or Large
Choose the size that fits your body type
The Stressless® Erik is available in three sizes. They look similar on the outside, but the width, seat height, and seat depth vary so that the chair fits your height and leg length. When you come in for a test sit, we’ll work with you to determine which size is the best fit for you.

Two people, two body types, one look
Do you both like the Erik, but are you built very differently? Then choose two armchairs that look identical in terms of leather, color, and base, but are each custom-made:
A size for everyone. S, M, or L, tailored to your height and inseam.
A headrest tailored to each person. If you have a long torso, slide the headrest up until the neck roll fits comfortably; otherwise, leave it in the lowest position.
A different seat height via the base. The Signature and Cross models sit 2 to 3 cm higher on the Erik than the Classic and add a gentle rocking motion.

Customize Erik
Five frames: Which one is right for you?
Stressless doesn't use a single standard size. Because Ekornes builds each Erik to order, you can tailor it perfectly to your body and your home. The base determines the chair's appearance and how it moves.
Classic is the sturdy, round wooden base that rotates 360°. Signature combines wood with aluminum, and Cross is a sleek metal cross-base; both feature the rocking BalanceAdapt™ motion. With the Office option, the Erik sits on casters and becomes a luxurious office chair; with Power™, you can adjust it electrically.
You can choose from eight wood finishes, and the legs of the Signature and Cross models are available in matte black or polished.

Upholstery & Maintenance
Leather or fabric: Which upholstery should you choose?
With the Erik down pillow, the cover plays a major role in how the stitching and compartments are showcased. The leather is cowhide, available in four quality grades: Batick, which is durable and easy to care for; Paloma, which is soft and natural; Velaro, which is thick and luxurious; and Noblesse, an exclusive semi-aniline leather.
When you choose your fabric, you'll find dozens of colors and textures: from wool (Calido) and bouclé (Marigold) to velour (Magnolia) and the suede-like microfiber Dinamica.
Official Stressless® care kits are available for leather and fabric. In our stores, you can see all the 2026 samples in the right lighting.

Who is this for?
Who is the Stressless® Erik suitable for?
The Erik is perfect for anyone who loves plush, soft seating comfort and a distinctive design with a retro twist. Thanks to the headrest, which can be raised up to 10 cm, it’s also highly recommended for taller people looking for extra neck support. And with three sizes available, even shorter people can find the right seat height.
If you're looking for a rounder, cozier shape, compare it to the Stressless® Ruby. If you want a sleek model with a high back, check out the Stressless® Paul.

Is the Stressless® Erik a good investment?
The purchase price is on the higher end, but a Stressless is built to last: a steel frame with flex springs, cold-molded foam, and durable upholstery—which you can even have reupholstered later. Feel free to do the math: an Erik Classic with a footstool, starting at €2,546, costs about €170 per year over 15 years of use. You can find all prices by model in the Stressless price list.
Ekornes Commercial Warranty
The Plus™ system, BalanceAdapt™, the metal frame, and the springs, effective from the date of purchase, excluding labor and travel costs. Leather, fabric, and woodwork are not covered.
Engine and Electronics
The warranty covers the motor and electrical components of the Erik Power™. The battery is covered for 2 years. Learn more about repairs.
Statutory Warranty
As with any product, the 2-year statutory warranty applies to the entire product, separate from the commercial warranty described above.

Frequently Asked Questions
All About the Stressless® Erik
What makes the Stressless® Erik special?
The Stressless® Erik combines a mid-century silhouette with a modern look. You’ll recognize it immediately by its soft duvet-style top cushion with distinctive double stitching, the headrest that can be raised up to 10 cm, and the sleek, fully upholstered armrests. Beneath the upholstery lies the same patented Stressless comfort found in the other models: the Plus™ system and the Glide-system™.
Why is the top pillow on the Erik called a duvet pillow?
“Duvet” is the French word for comforter. On top of the ergonomic seat shell lies an extra, softly padded top layer that feels like a thick comforter. The double stitching divides that cushion into compartments, just like a comforter: this keeps the filling in place and prevents the leather or fabric from wrinkling or sagging as easily.
How do the armrests on the Erik differ from those on other Stressless models?
The Erik’s armrests are slim and rounded, tapering downward in a smooth curve at the front. The top is fully upholstered, featuring the same double stitching as the seat cushion. With the Signature and Cross bases, the curved line of the armrest flows seamlessly into the base. As a result, the Erik appears more compact than its seating comfort would suggest.
We both like the Erik, but we have very different body types. Is that possible?
Yes, and that’s exactly what Stressless is designed for. You can choose two Erik armchairs that look identical in terms of leather, color, and base, but each comes in a different size (S, M, or L). If you have a long torso, you can slide the headrest up; the other person can leave it in the lowest position. And by choosing the base, you can adjust the seat height: the Signature and Cross bases on the Erik are about 2 to 3 cm higher than the Classic base.
What size Erik do I need—S, M, or L?
That depends on your height and leg length. With a Classic base, size S is 71 cm wide with a seat height of 41 cm, size M is 75 cm wide with a seat height of 42 cm, and size L is 83 cm wide with a seat height of 43 cm. A seat that’s too low or too deep can put just a little more pressure on your lower back. When you try out chairs in our stores, we’ll work with you to determine which size fits you best.
What is the difference between Classic, Signature, Cross, Office, and Power?
The difference lies in the base. Classic features a round wooden base that rotates 360°, with the lowest seat height. Signature combines wood with aluminum, and Cross features a sleek metal cross base; both include BalanceAdapt™, a subtle rocking motion. Office offers the Erik on casters as an office chair, and Power™ features electric adjustment with a built-in footrest.
Can the Stressless® Erik be adjusted electrically?
Yes. The Erik Power™ has built-in motors instead of a separate footrest: you can use buttons to extend the footrest and recline the backrest. The Power™ is available in sizes M and L, and comes standard with a power cord that plugs into an outlet or, optionally, with a rechargeable battery, so the chair can be placed right in the middle of the room.
Can I fully customize the Stressless® Erik?
Yes. You choose the size (S, M, or L), the base (Classic, Signature, Cross, Office, or Power™), the wood color from eight shades, the legs in matte black or polished for the Signature and Cross models, and the upholstery in leather or fabric from over a hundred colors. Every Erik is custom-made after you place your order.
Why is the Erik more ergonomic than many other recliners?
Because it moves with you instead of locking you into a fixed position. The Plus™ system supports your lower back and neck in any position, the Glide™ system lets you adjust the position using your own body weight, and you can adjust the headrest up to 10 cm to suit your height. With three sizes available, the seat depth also matches your leg length.
What does "dynamic sitting" mean, and why is it important?
Dynamic sitting means continuing to make small, natural movements while seated, rather than staying in the same position for hours on end. Ergonomists put it this way: the best sitting position is always the next one. The Erik doesn’t lock into place; it smoothly follows every shift in your weight, so changing positions happens naturally.
Should I choose leather or fabric?
Both options are available. The leather is cowhide, available in four quality grades: Batick, Paloma, Velaro, and Noblesse. Leather has a luxurious look and is easy to care for; fabric often feels warmer and comes in dozens of colors and textures, ranging from wool and bouclé to velour and Dinamica microfiber. You can feel all the samples in our stores.
How much does a Stressless® Erik cost, and what is the delivery time?
Online, you can purchase the Stressless Store Special Offer: starting at €2,164 (Classic without ottoman in fabric group 1), starting at €2,546 with ottoman, and up to €4,652 (Power™ in Noblesse leather)—all 10% below the suggested retail price. Since every Erik is custom-made in Norway, the delivery time is approximately 8 weeks; delivery is free in Belgium and the Netherlands.
What kind of warranty do I get with a Stressless® Erik?
Ekornes offers a 10-year warranty on the internal mechanism—the Plus™ system, BalanceAdapt™, the metal frame, and the springs—effective from the date of purchase, excluding labor and travel costs. The motor and electrical components of the Power™ system are covered by a 5-year warranty, and the battery is covered by a 2-year warranty. In addition, you have a 2-year statutory warranty on the entire product.
Why is a test drive so important to Erik?
Because seating comfort is a personal matter, and you can’t really get a feel for it on a screen. Only when you actually sit in the Erik will you discover how far you want to extend the headrest, which size is right for you, and how the sturdy Classic base feels compared to the gently rocking Signature or Cross. You can also handle all the leather and fabric samples.
Where can I try out the Stressless® Erik?

Where is the Stressless® Erik made?
