Jorgen has been repairing and maintaining Stressless furniture in our in-house repair service for over 30 years. What can be repaired on a Stressless chair?

In practice, most things can be repaired or modified. Jorgen repairs the mechanism and the metal frame, replaces worn-out parts, treats and restores leather and fabric, and makes adjustments and customizations when a chair no longer fits the way you sit today.

That’s consistent with how a Stressless is built. The first part to wear out is usually the leather or fabric, not the mechanism: at Ekornes, the cold-formed steel tube frame and the Plus™ system are tested using hydraulic robots over 150,000 to 300,000 test cycles under a load of up to 130 kg. Sometimes we receive Stressless chairs that have been in heavy use for twenty years and, after a refurbishment, are good for another twenty years.

What does the repair process look like in practice?

Bring your chair into our store, and we’ll take a look at it and do what’s needed. The turnaround time ranges from immediately—if it’s just an adjustment or a minor repair—to a few weeks if parts need to be ordered or reupholstering needs to be done.

Not sure if your problem requires a repair? Send us a photo in advance via the contact page, and we’ll give you an honest assessment of the cost before you make the trip. If your warranty is still valid, please have your receipt handy: registration is done using that receipt. Stressless offers a 2-year statutory warranty, a 10-year warranty on the internal mechanism, a 5-year warranty on Power™ electrical components, and a 2-year warranty on the Power™ battery.

Can you also bring in a sofa you bought somewhere else?

Yes. We also welcome Stressless chairs purchased elsewhere to our repair service. So you don't have to have purchased your chair from us to have it inspected, adjusted, or repaired.

That’s by design: we operate our own after-sales service at Stressless Store Leuven and Antwerp, with our own repair service and delivery team. Are you moving, or did you buy a used Stressless chair? Then you can come to us to have it restored. A used Stressless chair is worth an average of €500 to €1,000, depending on the number of seats, its condition, and its features.

Why is a reupholsterable chair more cost-effective?

Because you spread the purchase price out over many more years. A good recliner lasts 15 to 30 years, and a Stressless lasts about 20 years or more. A recliner that you have reupholstered after ten years instead of replacing it effectively cuts its cost per year of use in half.

Maintenance plays a major role in this. Treat the seat at least once a year with a leather care kit, and every quarter if it’s exposed to sunlight, a fireplace, or dry air.
