At our store in Leuven, you’ll find the largest selection of Stressless products in the Benelux: models, bases, and different types of leather and fabric are all displayed side by side, so you can take your time comparing them and trying them out. That’s handy, because you don’t choose a sofa you’ll be sitting in for the next 20 years based on a photo.
Why is it important to physically test a recliner?
Because comfort is personal, and there are significant differences between models. Dimensions, seat height, and backrest support vary by model, and what’s perfect for your partner might be just a little too deep or too high for you. When you try out a chair, you’ll immediately feel whether your feet are flat on the floor, whether your back is supported along its entire length, and whether you can sit up straight again without any effort. In addition, we’ll adjust the Glide™ system once using the dial knobs to match your body weight, so the chair tilts with you. You can also only truly assess the Plus™ system—which automatically adjusts the lumbar and headrests when you lean back—once you’re actually sitting in it. A photo shows you the color; the chair itself lets you feel the comfort.
What can you compare side by side on our site?
At our store, you can compare different models, bases, and upholstery side by side in a single room. You can compare a Stressless Mayfair with a Stressless Consul or a Stressless Stella, and then see the same model on a different base. That base isn’t just a minor detail: the wooden bases consist of 32 layers of European beech wood pressed under high pressure and help determine the look and height of your chair. In addition to recliners, we also feature sofas and living room sets, dining chairs, and tables, so you can immediately see if everything works well together in your home.
How do you choose between leather and fabric?
It’s best to make that choice with the fabric samples in hand, because color and texture look different in person than they do on a screen. Stressless offers four leather options, ranging from least to most maintenance-intensive: Batick, Paloma, Velaro, and Noblesse. Treat the seating surfaces at least once a year; treat more delicate leather twice a year or more, and if your chair is near a south-facing window, a fireplace, or in a dry room, do so every quarter. If you choose fabric, use the fabric care kit instead of the leather care kit. Incidentally, the first part to show wear is almost always the upholstery, not the mechanism, so that choice helps determine how long your sofa will stay looking good.
Will the after-sales service remain with the same company?
Yes, we handle everything in-house. We handle delivery ourselves, have our own after-sales service, and operate our own repair shop for Stressless sofas, where Jorgen—with 30 years of experience—works. You bring your chair in, and we’ll take care of the rest—with a turnaround time ranging from immediately to a few weeks. If you’d like us to take your old chair with us upon delivery, there’s a fee of 75 €. That way, years down the line, you won’t have to search for someone who knows your chair: the same store that helped you choose it will also help you maintain and repair it.
